An opportune time to reflect inward and connect with your Spiritual Coach is when you first wake up. When you first wake up, you are like a nearly-clean slate, and you can begin the day anew, especially as you take time to connect with the Spiritual Coach within you. Give yourself five or ten extra minutes to center and align yourself for the day using the free meditation below.

Lay in bed after you awaken and take a deep breath. Become aware of your body and nurture a feeling of gratitude for every part of it. In other words, feel the appreciation for your fingers, hands, arms, neck, chest, heart, stomach, legs, ankles, feet, toes, and everything in between. Spend a few seconds with each and every part of your body. As you take another deep breath, appreciate the miracle of how your body functions on the inside without you having to do anything. You don't need to consciously do anything to breathe, or digest your food, or blink your eyes, etc. Truly this is a miracle, so marvel at its expression of you.

Begin to shift your awareness to thoughts about your day. Think about what is ahead of you objectively for a moment (big meeting at work, full day with the kids, fun day with friends, etc.). Then, still focusing on your breath, take a moment and imagine what you would like to happen with your day. For example, if you are having a day with your kids at home, maybe you would like to have it be "easy" and to flow smoothly, transitioning from one activity to another with ease and fun. If you have a busy day at work, your ideal day today might be a successful meeting, a productive day of checking items off the list (completion).

Once you have a sense of the kind of day you would like to have, let yourself go even deeper and imagine how you will feel when you have this "ideal day." Maybe you feel relief, ease, happiness, peace. As you connect with the feeling you would most like to experience today breathe it in and let it fill your body, from your fingers to your toes. After a few more breaths, slowly open and close your eyes.

Let the effects of this free meditation connecting to your Spiritual Coach integrate into your body and spill over into your "awake state." Begin your day with the hopeful feeling of having it be everything you want it to be.
